It is getting harder and harder to find the time to keep up with the Diary
March 6, 2004
Well the pups have their new pen! It is roughly 5.5 feet by 5 feet. March 9, 2004 The pups have been able
to spend time outside for a few March 10, 2004 Today starts a new strategy
for me and the pups. Im going copyright (c) 2000-2009 Carousel Belgian Malinois
They are fat strong pups. I think it is worth while
to read the following page. Age 1-14 days And 15-21 days
it seems to have very good information on developmental
stages for the pups. The puppies are also now
starting to hear! There will be a lot less sneaking
up on them! The easy part for me is quickly coming to an end.
Papers and bedding needs to be changed more often
as the pups can now eliminate on their own.
As they approach 3 weeks they will start to have some
agendas and ideas, as they can see (while not that well)
they can also hear quite well! I have started to play
a radio, some CDs and a sound disc (plays sounds
of thunder, lawn mowers, crying babies etc.)
And one tape that has all sounds heard at a dog show!
Today they will also have their first worming
with Nemex 2 most all puppies are born with
roundworms. They will be treated every 2 weeks
until they go to their homes.
Not a moment to soon, I picked up and purchased
the remaining materials to make the pups next stage pen today!
I had hoped that I could make the pups new pen area after work
On Wednesday, but the pups had different ideas. Moments after
I got home Tuesday night 3 pups were out of the kiddy pool!
So one hour later I had at least a secure and better area for the pups.
My 2nd bedroom has hardwood floors. So I put down a heavy tarp,
Followed by a foam fatigue mat, this offers firm cushion and some
insulation from cold floors. Next I put down several thick layers of
newspaper, followed by bath towels, followed by a nice fleece bed that
takes up about 2/3 of the pen. It is a nice area for the pups but it is a bit
labor intensive to clean. Over the coming weekend I plan to move some
furniture around and put down a sheet of vinyl flooring.
This will give me a larger area and it will be much easier to
clean. The pups are getting around much better, in a few days they
will be 3 weeks old.
The pups pretty much OWN me (smile). Their pen set up is working
well and this weekend I plan do a MAJOR re-model. The pups and
Rave are ready for more space and it will make it EASIER for me to
clean. With the current set up it takes me about 20 min to strip it
down and re set it up with clean bedding, of course there are puppies
to snuggle so it takes LONGER (smile). I'm doing this full strip down
2 times to 3 times a day. The pups milk teeth are coming in and they
are playing more with their littermates. They have had some soft
stools since they were wormed last weekend, I will take a stool
sample in on Saturday morning just to double check.
They have several different surfaces and some
toys to play with and explore.
hours that past 3 days. Monday we even had a high of
72 degrees! It is great for them to hear new sounds,
and smells and have grass under their feet. It also gives
a chance for me to clean the puppy pen and air it out well.
On Thursday they will be 4 weeks old!
I am always amazed at how fast the time passes!
The Silver pups older ½ sister Shine has become a natural
auntie dog, she is so good and gentle with the pups.
Rave seems happy enough to have some help. The other
morning Shine was laying outside the puppy pen watching
over the pups, and Rave was fast asleep on my bed!
Below Shine and the pups outside on 7th
to try to box train the pups, I have put a box down and
will teach them how to use the box for potty, keeping
the rest of the pen clean. Gold boy was the first to use it,
such a smart boy. The weather continues to be great, I
have some new play equipment for the pups for their outside
pen and I cant wait to set it up on Thursday!
